New Zealand farmers have made a conscious decision to keep their animals in nature – they roam freely outside and are fed from our own pasture.
This way of farming is second nature to us; overseas we’re considered unique. New Zealand's meat and dairy is second to none and we are well-respected for the way we farm and raise animals.
Now, a certification created in New Zealand, called Rangedfree, will make sure quality meat and dairy exports are recognised and rewarded as world-class products.
Rangedfree is a certification for meat and dairy exports. With Rangedfree certification, consumers around the world will know they are buying a premium product and can trust it has been raised on an outdoor farm.
Farms that achieve Rangedfree certification can show they produce a premium product that is valued around the world for its quality. And the good news is, the vast majority of farms in New Zealand already meet Rangedfree certification criteria.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The vast majority of farms in New Zealand already meet Rangedfree certification criteria.
RANGEDFREE MEANS YOUR ANIMALS ARE:
FREE TO ROAM OUTDOORS FOR 255 DAYS OR MORE IN A YEAR
RANGED FREELY ON A ROTATIONAL GRAZING SYSTEM
Rangedfree certification is approved for your farm based on the farm records you have for your herd that you supply to your manufacturer. Apart from your initial application and an annual renewal, there are no extra forms to fill out, records to keep, or costs to apply. Farms can then show their certification to the organisations they supply.
Farmers will be able to register their farm for Rangedfree certification in the 2019/2020 season.
Rangedfree certification proves the farm supplying dairy or meat is certified and those companies can then use the certification on their packaging to attract a premium on its products.
